‼️If you are stuck in a freezing winter storm and you are without power, do you know what to do?
1. COVER windows and doors (from the inside of your house) with plastic sheeting (https://amzn.to/40o5tWX) and duct tape. The goal is to insulate as much as possible and keep out any cold air. If you don’t have plastic sheeting then use whatever you have to create another barrier from the cold (I.e. tarps, sheets, trash bags, etc.). *If you don’t have enough coverings for all of the windows and doors in your house then focus on creating a MICROENVIRONMENT in the next step.
2. Create a MICROENVIRONMENT in one of the rooms in your home. Preferably a smaller room so it will be easier to trap in any heat. This step is CRUCIAL in trying to survive in a power outage during a winter storm.
- As in the previous step, COVER all of the windows with plastic sheeting (https://amzn.to/40o5tWX).
- Close any doors that lead to the other parts of your house and put a towel or blanket at the bottom to prevent cold air from coming in.
- If you have a tent (https://amzn.to/4fV7UF2) set that up in the room and stay in the tent to keep warm. Make sure your tent in well ventilated and unzip the doors to the tent when needed.
3. WEAR LAYERS of clothing. If you’ve ever lived someplace cold, you know the importance of wearing layers to help keep you warm. Don’t forget to cover your head, feet, and hands.
4. BOIL WATER as this creates humidity which will help increase the temperature in the room. And then make some hot chocolate! 😋
