HOW TO PREPARE FOR THE POLAR VORTEX

‼️A polar vortex is hitting the U.S. starting this weekend causing temperatures that will be below 0 degrees Fahrenheit in at least 20 states. Even states that are in the south are expected experience below average temperatures by Monday.

‼️WAYS YOU CAN PREPARE:

- Make sure you enough FOOD in your home so you won’t have to travel for awhile. At LEAST 1-2 weeks worth of food.

- Make sure you have WATER! FEMA recommends at least 1 gallon of water per person per day. Remember you need water not only for drinking, but also cooking, hygiene, cleaning, and flushing the toilets if the power goes out. A WaterBOB (https://amzn.to/40B7GON) is a great way to quickly store a lot of water in a bathtub. I like this model cause it comes with a hand pump to easily access the water (https://amzn.to/40B7GON).

- If your POWER GOES OUT (or if the temperatures in your home drastically drops) create a MICROENVIRONMENT. Preferably a smaller room to help retain heat. This means covering all of the windows with plastic sheeting (https://amzn.to/4g5KFrQ) and putting a towel or blanket at the bottom of any doors to prevent any cold air from coming in. Then, if you have a tent, put up a tent in that same room and stay in the tent. Make sure you keep the tent well ventilated for air circulation. Then dress warm with layers and be sure to cover your head, hands, and feet.

- HAND WARMERS are a must for cold climates.

- POWER BANKS and SOLAR GENERATORS are great if you are able to have them fully charged ahead of time. GAS GENERATORS are a great option for cold climates as you won’t have full sun to recharge a solar generator. Just make sure you don’t run your gas generator inside your house.

- Make sure you have a way to cook your food. Small butane stoves (https://amzn.to/4jkfPOY) are a great way to cook indoors during emergencies.
