The most important step when it comes to putting together your “Bug Out Bag” is to just START. Sometimes the thought of gathering all of the perfect items can seem daunting and make you want to quit before you’ve even begun. Right now we don’t want you to worry about picking the “perfect” bag; we just want you to get your “Bug Out Bag” put together and done as quickly as possible. Think of this as a scavenger hunt around your home to find what works for right now. Then later on you can fine tune your bags and enhance them with items that would be better for survival situations.
☑️TODAY’S GOAL: Look around your home and find a bag to hold your items. You’ll want 1 bag per person because there may be specific items that each person may need. For example, medications, feminine supplies for a woman, diapers and wipes for a baby, etc.
IDEAS FOR “BUG OUT BAGS”:
Grocery Sacks - While this is not the most practical option for long term, right now we are just looking for something that’s good enough for now so you are ready to go in an emergency.
Fabric Totes or Reusable Shopping Bags - This is definitely a better option than the previous cause it’s more durable. Again, we are just trying to find a bag that you already have lying around your house and is easy to grab.
Duffle Bags - If you have an extra duffle bag, this will definitely give you more room to have more items. While picking your “Bug Out Bag”, make sure you consider if you would be able to walk long distances with this bag. If you don’t think you could walk long distances with a duffle bag BUT this is the only bag you have, then let this be good enough for now and then down the road try to find a different bag. The most important step today is to get your bag started.
Backpacks - Old backpacks that you’re no longer using are a great option for your “Bug Out Bag”. Usually organization is easier than with a duffle bag or fabric tote. Backpacks will be easier to carry than the previous options if you should have to travel on foot.
Framed Backpacks - Framed backpacks are great cause you can fit a lot more items and there’s better organization then the previous options. This option is great if you’re a parent and have to carry the items for babies and younger children.
Remember, don’t worry about picking the “perfect” bag today. Just pick whatever you have in your home today so you can have a “Bug Out Bag” with the basics for survival by the end of this 7-Day Challenge.
